An official title, not an attribution
The directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference literally records a Saint Mary, Holy Mary, Mother of God, as patron of Yucheon. It also confirms the founding date, the direction and the membership of the Archdiocese of Daegu.
The Marian identity therefore comes from an official ecclesial source. It has not been inferred from the name of the neighborhood or from an image found in the temple.
What does "Mother of God" mean?
The Church calls Mary the Mother of God because who was born of her according to the flesh is Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of the Father made man. Mary is the mother of the person of Jesus, who is truly divine.
The title does not teach that Mary exists before God or that she is the origin of divinity. On the contrary, it protects the truth about Christ: one person, with divine and human nature.
La fe de Éfeso
Christian tradition uses the Greek word Theotokos"the one who gave birth to God." The Council of Ephesus, in 431, solemnly confirmed this title in the face of explanations that overseparated the humanity and divinity of Christ.
The Marian devotion of Yucheon is thus deeply Christological. Honoring the Mother leads to confessing who her Son is.
A parish founded in 2007
Yucheon was erected on 4 September 2007. Its territory is located in Hwawon-eup, within Dalseong@-@ gun, very close to the southern districts of Dalseo-gu.
The community accompanies an area integrated into the urban expansion of Daegu. Its history is recent and does not artificially extend to a past that sources do not document.
A home-creating maternity
The growing urban territories bring together families from different places. A parish can offer not only celebrations, but links, listening and accompaniment.
Mary took care of the Child, shared the displacement and kept the events in her heart. His motherhood inspires a community capable of receiving those who arrive, supporting parents and protecting children.
Conconfirmed sacramental life
The archdiocese documents the celebration of confirmations in Yucheon presided over by its archbishop. In one of the published celebrations, 46 faithful received the sacrament.
This data confirms the pastoral continuity of the parish without converting a specific figure into permanent statistics.
Youth, silence and prayer
The youth community organized a Taizé-style celebration with simple songs, prayer and silence. Young people, altar servants and other parish groups collaborated in the preparation.
The initiative sought to offer a pause in the midst of accelerated life. Christian silence is not an absence: it is ready to listen to God, to recognize what was lived and to return more carefully to others.
Faith transmitted in the family
The archdiocese's bulletin published the testimony of a family of Yucheon that placed God at the center of his life and recalled the perseverance of his children in the service of the altar and catechesis.
It's a particular testimony, not a description of all families. It helps, however, to see how a young parish is forming memory through simple and constant practices.
The first day of the year and peace
The Latin Church celebrates the Solemnity of St. Mary, Mother of God, on January 1, 8th Christmas and World Day of Peace.
To contemplate the Prince of Peace in the arms of Mary invites to take care of life, overcome indifference and call for a just reconciliation for the entire Korean peninsula.
Mary guards and discerns
Saint Luke presents Mary by preserving events and meditating on them in her heart. This attitude avoids both hasty reaction and passivity.
In a modern community, keeping in the heart means listening, contrasting, praying and making responsible decisions for the good of people.

The street and the point match. The marker has not been placed in the generic center of Yucheon- dong or in a non-Catholic church of similar name.
Do not confuse with other parishes
Several South Korean parishes share the title of St. Mary, Mother of God, among them Daegok, Secheon and Gangbyeon Mass. Yucheon has a community, a date, a address and a marker of its own.
The repetition of the title reflects a common faith, but does not turn the parishes into duplicates.
To visit and pray
Yucheon is an active parish church. Before you go it is appropriate to confirm the hours, respect the veneration and ask permission before photographing people.
The mystery of Nativity can be prayed for mothers, children and families, and a ten for the young and for the peace of Korea.
Prayer to St. Mary, Mother of God, from Jucheon
Holy Mary, Mother of God, keeps the parish of Yucheon and the families of Daegu. Teach us to recognize in your Son the true God made man, to preserve his Word and to care tenderly for those who trust us. It accompanies young people and makes us servants of reconciliation and peace. Amen.
