The Bishops' Conference of Korea CEO Greeting, Holy Name of Mary, as patronage of Bugang. His record also confirms the diocese, the founding date and the direction.
There is no Marian apparition associated with the site. It is a parochial dedication and not a sanctuary of extraordinary phenomena.
A parish founded in 1957
The community was erected 21 April 1957. Bugang retains a local identity prior to the administrative creation of the special city of Sejong, to which it belongs today.
Without attributing to the foundation an intention not explained by the source, the patronage recalls that God calls specific people by name and brings them together in community.
Lycúrgical memory
The Church recalls the Holy Name of Mary the 12 Septembera few days after the feast of his Nativity. The celebration directs the believer's trust to the person of Mary and, through her, to Christ.
Benedict XVI stated on that date that Mary is fully united with her Son and offers the close face of a mother who gives courage in the difficulties.
Maria, Miriam
The name that we pronounce in Spanish Mary comes from Hebrew and Aramaic forms like Miriam. St. John Paul II recalled that it was the name with which his family and his neighbours met, and with which he was called within history.
The etymological interpretations of the name have been diverse. Devotion does not need to present one of them as an indisputable scientific translation.
Star of the sea
Western tradition has called Mary Stella Maris, Sea Star. Benedict XVI used this image to describe a close light that guides when life looks like a dark sea.
The star does not replace the great Light, which is Jesus Christ. Mary leads to him through her yes and her goodness.
The name and person
In the Bible, pronouncing a name recognizes a person and his history. Christian prayer does not use the name of Mary as a magic formula.
Invoking it means trusting in his intercession and learning from his faith, always within communion with God.
A maternal closeness
There are times when a person can hardly formulate a long prayer. To say "Mary" can express a request for company and open the heart to Jesus.
This simplicity does not eliminate the need for medical care, professional support or protection when there is serious suffering. Prayer accompanies responsible care.
Respect the name of each person
Celebrating Mary's name invites others to call with respect and not to reduce them to a label, diagnosis, provenance or past error.
The parish lives its patronage when it meets those who are alone, listens to its history and prevents someone from becoming anonymous within the community.
Memory between generations
The names transmitted in a family keep stories, affections and absences. The Christian community also receives a memory that must be cared for and explained.
Mary teaches to guard the faith without turning it into nostalgia, opening it to the young and to those who come from other places.
Invoking Mary for peace
Maternal trust extends to families separated from the peninsula and to those living without freedom. Each person has a name and dignity that division cannot erase.
From Bugang a reconciliation can be called for that recognizes specific stories and does not reduce entire peoples to enemy categories.

To visit and pray
The avemary for those who feel forgotten, for the families and for the peace of Korea can be slowly prayed. Another possibility is to meditate on the announcement and personal response of Mary. The hours should be confirmed directly.
Bugang is a parish dedicated to the Holy Name of Mary, not a place of apparitions. The visit must respect the cult and the community.
Prayer to the Holy Name of Mary of Bugang
Saint Mary, whose name we invoke with confidence, keeps the parish of Bugang and the families of Sejong. Remind us that each person has a name and dignity before God. He accompanies those who feel forgotten, teach us to pronounce our yes and always condemn us to Jesus Christ. It is committed to the freedom, reconciliation and peace of all Korea. Amen.
