The official name should be kept
The Episcopal Conference of Korea records Sophia Lynn, "Virgin Mary," as patron of Jeongnim- dong. It does not specify Immaculate Conception, Asunción, Rosario, Lourdes, Fatima or any other particular title.
That's why this page keeps the general name. Adding a more specific advocation would produce attractive information, but not supported by sources.
Mary within the mystery of Christ
The Church contemplates Mary because God called her to be the mother of Jesus and she responded freely. His place is not understood to be isolated from Christ, but within the Incarnation and the history of salvation.
The Catechism teaches that Marian devotion essentially differs from the worship due only to God. To honor Mary leads to the recognition of the work of grace and to follow her Son.
A patronage that embraces his whole life
By not choosing a single episode, the title allows to travel a complete itinerary: the listening of Nazareth, the service to Elizabeth, the poverty of Bethlehem, the hidden life, Cana, the cross and prayer with the nascent Church.
Each stage reveals a virtue without making Mary a distant figure: faith, availability, care, perseverance and hope.
Foundation on 1 August 1994
The diocese of Daejeon erected the parish of Jeongnim-dong the 1 August 1994. The community began in an urban sector that grew to the south-west of the city.
His first pastoral period was associated with Father Benedict Lee Won@-@ hyo. Then there continued to be a number of officials whose work appears in local history.
A story written by the parish
In 2009, on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary, Jeongnim- dong published a volume of 253 pages on the years 1994-2009.
The work was organized in five chapters and annexes: establishment and arraigo, pastoral history, secular activity, parish situation, photographs, celebrations and testimonies.
Keeping memory is not just celebrating
A parish history allows for the recognition of tasks that are often left out of the chronicles: catechists, liturgical teams, help groups, maintenance, administration and care for the sick.
It also offers materials to review decisions and learn from difficulties. The Christian memory thanks without turning the past into propaganda.
The temple consecrated in 2000
The available documentation puts in the year 2000 the consecration of the present temple. The building is distinguished from many Korean brick churches because of its metal structure.
The architecture responds to meeting, liturgy and training needs. Its main value is not to imitate a historical style, but to serve the community in dignity.
Mary and the construction of a common house
A church dedicated to the Virgin remembers the house of Nazareth, but should not be locked in an idealized domestic image. Mary knew displacement, uncertainty and the responsibility to protect a vulnerable life.
The parish can become home when it welcomes those who arrive alone, allows them to participate at different ages and offers help without humiliating.
The South Daejeon district
Jeongnim-dong is part of the southern pastoral district of the diocese. There are parishes of residential districts, sectors developed in different decades and religious spaces dedicated to youth and training.
Inter-community collaboration makes it possible to share resources and to prevent each parish from facing common challenges.
The presence of the Sisters of Charity of Seton
The episcopal directory points to the presence of the Sisters of the Charity of Seton. His service is integrated into parish life and pastoral accompaniment.
Consecrated life recalls that baptism can be deployed in various forms of dedication, prayer and work with the most vulnerable.
A community of about 1,800 faithful
The statistics of the directory have 1,804 Catholics and no dependent missionary station. The figure describes a parish of medium size within the city.
The number of registered persons with effective participation should not be confused. Visit, listen and small communities help to find out who needs accompaniment.
Find new families
In 2011 the parish developed an initiative called "search for new families." As part of it, he invited interested people to a cultural day to get to know the community naturally.
Some 200 people participated in performances prepared by faithful, religious and priests: percussion, traditional songs, dance, saxophone, guitar and music of praise.
Culture as a meeting space
Evangelization must not manipulate friendship or hide its purpose. It can, however, create spaces where someone freely knows a community before making any religious decision.
Art, music and hospitality promote conversation and confidence when respecting the awareness of each visitor.
Confirmation of more than 100 people
On 20 May 2012, Bishop Augustine Kim Jong@-@ soo presided over the Confirmation of 102 members of the parish.
The celebration was the result of personal and community preparation. Confirmation is not a graduation that ends the formation, but a call to live and witness the faith with maturity.
The activity of the laity
The fifteen-year history devoted a full chapter to secular activity and to different groups. This emphasis is significant: the parish is not reduced to the work of the clergy.
Tips, catechesis, liturgy, Legion of Mary, charitable care and practical tasks depend on shared responsibilities and continuous formation.
Fifteen years of "Word by phone"
In 1994, a three-minute Sunday reflection initiative was launched. For 15 years, it was renewed on a weekly basis and received about 2,000 calls a month.
The project was born before the mobile internet was daily. It allowed access to a brief meditation from any phone paying only a local call.
Communication adapted to your time
In 2009, those reflections were gathered in a 379-page book. They were also disseminated by e-mail and web.
Experience teaches that pastoral technology is not about pursuing new developments. It is a choice of accessible means to bring a clear word to the sick, remote people and pastoral agents.
Accessibility and digital prudence
Today the same intention can continue with audio, legible text and mobile channels, taking care of privacy, consent and security.
Not every older person uses recent applications. Maintaining simple alternatives prevents digitization from excluding precisely those who need the most support.
The name of the neighborhood
A local tradition relates Jeongnim-dong to Summary, "the village under the forest." Se habría representado inicialmente con personas que evocaban un forested calidad y después con la grafía actual.
The explanation is part of the local toponymic memory, but does not determine Marian patronage.
Next to Gyebaek-ro
The parish is located near the axis of Gyebaek-ro, an important road that connects the southwest of Daejeon. Housing, transport and trade form their immediate environment.
Mobility facilitates access, but can also fragment relationships. The parish offers a stable point for those who change their residence or work.
Do not confuse parish and Salesian community
In Jeongnim-dong there is also a Salesian community and pastoral center, located in another direction. Although both belong to the territory of the diocese, they are not the same compound.
The marker of this document corresponds to the parish of Gyebaek-ro 1300beon-gil, not to the Salesian center of Gubong-ro.
Mary and listen to her
The general form "Virgin Mary" allows you to take the Annunciation as a school of listening. Mary asks, discerns and answers; her yes is not passivity, but free cooperation.
A Marian community must listen before deciding, especially to those who will suffer the consequences of a decision and to those who often have less voice.
Mary and the service
After the Annunciation, Mary is on her way to Isabel. The faith received becomes a visit and concrete help.
The Visitation inspires care for vulnerable pregnant women, older women alone, caregivers, newly arrived families and people with reduced mobility.
Mary and shared joy
In Cana, Mary warns a need that others have not publicly expressed. His discretion avoids embarrassment and leads to Jesus.
Parish charity must learn this delicacy: help without exhibiting, protect personal data and not turn poverty into promotional material.
Mary at the foot of the cross
The general patron also includes the Mother who remains with Christ crucified. That is why the Marian community cannot be limited to festive moments.
Accompanying grief, disease, unemployment and violence requires time, competence and coordination with professionals when the case requires it.
Mary with the nascent Church
The Acts of the Apostles present Mary praying with the disciples before Pentecost. It does not appear isolated, but within a community that awaits the Spirit.
This image illuminates tips, groups and assemblies: start with prayer, listen to various gifts and seek the common good.
verified location for the map
The episcopal directory places the parish in Twenty Gyebaek@@. The cartography consulted by name and address returns 36.3074168, 127.3670501.
The point coincides with the parish building and not with the administrative centre of the neighborhood or the nearby Salesian community.
A variable romanization
It may appear as Jeongnim-dong, Jungnim-dong or Chongnim-dong according to system and time. The Jeongnim-dong form reflects the revised romanization.
Address, telephone, episcopal code 201000728 and coordinates resolve any ambiguity.
Para visitr with reject
Jeongnim-dong is an active parish. Timelines can be changed and must be confirmed by official channels. During celebrations and catechesis it is appropriate to keep quiet and not to photograph people without permission.
One visit may include a mystery of the Rosary by the families of the neighborhood, another by those who proclaim the Gospel through the means and another by those who cannot travel to the temple.
Prayer to the Virgin Mary of Jeongnim- dong
Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, keeps the parish of Jeongnim- dong and the families of Daejeon. Teach us to listen as in Nazareth, to serve as in the Visitation, to recognize needs as in Cana and to remain with those who suffer. Let our means communicate truth and comfort, let no one be excluded, and let all devotion lead us to your Son. Amen.
