According to tradition, on October 2, 40, the Virgin Mary appeared to the Apostle James in Zaragoza, on a column of jaspe. The Virgin was alive and in a glorious body.

La Virgen María le dijo a Santiago: «Esta casa será dedicada a mi nombre, y en ella serán concedidas las gracias que se pidan.» La Virgen dejó la columna (el Pilar) como regalo.
The Basilica of the Pilar of Zaragoza is the most important Marian sanctuary in Spain. Every 12 October, the Spaniards celebrate the festival of the Pilar.
