In Mbabane, the capital of Esuatini (formerly Swaziland), the Cathedral of Santa Maria is the center of the Catholic faith. The Oblate missionaries established devotion in the 19th century.
Faith in the last absolute kingdom of Africa
Esuatini is the last absolute kingdom in Africa. Catholics are a significant minority, about 25% of the population. The Virgin Mary is the mother who protects them in the kingdom.
Tradition tells that the Virgin protects the esuatinian Catholics. The faithful pray the Rosary in their homes, knowing that the Virgin listens to them.
