María Auxiliadora de Darkhan (Mongolia)

The Catholic parish of Darkhan in northern Mongolia is dedicated to Mary Helper and belongs to the Apostolic prefecture of Ulan Bator. Founded by Salesian missionaries, he received official permission from the authorities in 2006, when there were only four Catholics in the city.

🌹 Wonders and anecdotes

  • When the first Salesians arrived, there were only four Catholics in Darkhan: two priests, the translator and the driver; the community was born of evangelization through education.
  • In 2006 the government granted official recognition; the community moved from a small chapel to an old adapted factory, to consecrate a new temple on May 31, 2012.
  • It has about 250 faithful, all Mongolian; there is daily mass, rosary on Saturdays and Eucharistic veneration on Sundays.
  • The Missionaries of Charity, the Daughters of Mary Helper and the first Salesian Cooperatives of Mongolia are collaborating.
Maria Auxiliadora (Darkhan)

Feast: May 24 (Mary Helper) · Place: Darkhan (Mongolia)

In a nation where Catholics barely exceed a thousand and a half, the parish of Mary Helper of Darkhan is a recent and living outbreak of the faith: an entirely Mongolian community born around the education of the young and the prayer of the Rosary.
