Lucia and the Secret of Fatima

Fatima, Portugal

Lucia dos Santos kept a secret that the Church only revealed decades later. His story is among the most touching of Marian apparitions.

Main data

Lucia was 10 years old when the Virgin first appeared to her at the Cova da Iria. Jacinta and Francisco, their cousins, accompanied her. Our Lady asked them to pray the Rosary every day for the peace of the world. When Lucia wanted to tell what happened, people didn't believe him. The mayors, the priests, all doubted.

Lucía vivió 97 años y nunca dejó de rezar el Rosario. En su lecho de muerte, una monja le preguntó si la Virgen había vuelto a aparecer. Lucía sonrió y dijo: «Está aquí, a mi lado».
