The map uses 31.7032, 35.2087, round the position of OpenStreetMap way 313843776, identified as Church of the Milk Grotto. The precision is verified_building: corresponds to the map building of the sanctuary, not to a medical, archaeological or supernatural point that the sources have not fixed.

Documented history

The Custody of the Holy Land presents the Grotto of Milk as one of the Marian shrines of Bethlehem. The cavity and church are real places of worship and pilgrimage; the history of the sanctuary is linked to the memory of the Holy Family and the local tradition of flight to Egypt. Devotional sources describe the veneration of the clear stone of the grotto and the spread of fragments among pilgrims from different countries.

The present Franciscan church belongs to the modern history of the sanctuary and preserves the grotto inside. The cult has remained linked to the life of Bethlehem, to the prayer of families and to the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The Custody explains that the place is visited along with the Basilica of the Nativity, the Basilica of the Annunciation and the Church of the Visitation within the set of Marian shrines of the region.

The documented history of the building and pilgrimage does not automatically test every story transmitted about the grotto. It can be said that the sanctuary exists, that it belongs to the Custody and that it receives prayer; the specific powers of favors or cures require a source and a degree of certainty of its own.

Tradition

Tradition tells that Mary breastfed Jesus during the flight to Egypt and that a drop of milk fell on the stone, which would have been white. This is a devotional legend, not a historical statement demonstrated by a contemporary witness or an analysis that allows the scene to be rebuilt. The name of the Grotto retains that tradition within the Christian piety of Bethlehem.

The Marian devotion of the sanctuary is particularly related to mothers, marriages and those who ask for the gift of the children. In Catholic practice, these prayers are addressed to God and request the intercession of Mary. Mary is venerated, not worshipped; worship belongs only to God.

Legend and limits of the record

The Custody and the testimonies of pilgrims document the existence of devotion, but they do not in themselves make each birth, healing or favor attributed to the grotto a approved miracle. The tab does not present the dust or stone of the cave as medical treatment, nor does it offer an automatic promise to the pilgrim. There is no Catholic decree declaring concrete miracles of the Milk Grotto as supernatural facts approved individually.

Ecclesial State

The state indicated is veneration _ permitted: The Milk Grotto is a Catholic sanctuary of public veneration of the Custody of the Holy Land. This label describes the ecclesial existence of the place and the legitimacy of its liturgical and devotional prayer; it does not mean that the Church has approved as supernatural the legend of the drop of milk or every witness of favor received.

Anecdotes and stories

The recent history of the sanctuary is also made up of letters, photographs and stories from families who appreciate having received comfort or a son after praying there. These testimonies have the courage to understand the devotion of pilgrims, but they do not replace a medical research or an ecclesial judgment. The difference protects both the truth and the dignity of those who tell their history.

The Milk Grotto occupies a particular place in Bethlehem because it unites the memory of the childhood of Jesus, the maternal figure of Mary and the specific concerns of families. The clear stone, the darkness of the cave and the silent prayer explain much of its symbolic strength, without the need to add facts that do not contain.

Prayer

Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, intercedes before the Lord for the mothers, parents, children and families who suffer. Take his pleas to your Son, comfort those who wait and teach us to live with faith, prudence and charity in Bethlehem and all the Holy Land. Amen.
