According to tradition, the image of the Virgin was found on a ship coming from the Holy Land in the 6th century The ship had no rudder or candles, but it arrived in Italy guided by Providence.
The sailors left the image on Loreto beach. The Virgin chose that place to stay. Today, the Holy House of Loreto is one of the most important shrines in the world.
