Our Lady of Candelaria
Sololá, Guatemala
La Virgen de la Candelaria is the patron of the indigenous peoples of Guatemala.
In Sololá, on the banks of Lake Atitlán, the Quichés indigenous people venerate the Virgin of Candelaria. The image was found by fishermen on the lake.
The indigenous people pray to him in quiché and bring him offerings of flowers and fruits. The Virgin is the mother who understands the languages of the original peoples.
Every 2 February, thousands of indigenous people go up to the hermitage to celebrate the feast of the Candelaria.
