Hāta Maria, Holy Mary Mother of God (Māori advocation)

Marian devotion

Origin and history

"Ko Hāta María, te Matua Wahine or te Atua" - Holy Mary, Mother of God - is the Marian title of New Zealand in Maori. Its official icon, commissioned by the Episcopal Conference and developed on August 15, 2021, presents Mary in blue ocean, with poutama fabric, the koru attached to the flower of lis (Māori and French roots) and a silver fern of twelve points by the Apostles.

Link to the Rosary

In the most remote islands of the Pacific, where faith often arrived by sea, the Rosary remains the simple prayer that unites every heart with Mary, from island to island and from generation to generation.
