The Virgin of Suyapa is a patron of Honduras. A small image was found by a peasant.
In 1747, a peasant named Leonardo Martínez found an image of the Virgin made of pita wood of just 17 cm. He took her to church, but the image was always coming home.
Los hondureños la veneran como «Suyapa», que significa «la que está sentada». La imagen pequeña ha viajado por todo el país en procesiones.
Every February 3, millions of Hondurans celebrate the Suyapa feast with masses and processions.
