A peasant was washing rice in the river when he saw a beautiful woman with a child in his arms, sitting on a rock. The woman asked for rice for her son. The peasant gave it to him without hesitation. The next day, he found his rice multiplied. He understood that he had seen the Virgin and built a chapel in that place.

Koratty Muthy's record corresponds to the same pilgrimage centre in Koratty, in the district of Thrissur, Kerala. The history published by the church expressly recognizes that there are no authentic documents to prove the foundation in 1381. He adds that there are indications of the existence of the church during the Sakthan Thampuran government, between 1775 and 1790, and retains September 8 as the traditional date of the celebration. This formulation allows the local memory to be respected without presenting as documented a date that the source itself cannot prove.
The history of the sanctuary links its origin to a Christian community that depended on the ancient church of Ambazhakkad and the protection of local authorities. The account of the burial of Commander Kochu Vareeth and the subsequent construction of a church is part of the historical tradition of the place. The page also recalls damage suffered during the Tipu campaign and subsequent reconstructions, but no war episode is used to affirm a supernatural intervention.
A particularly known tradition explains the offering of bananas Not applicable. According to the official website, a supervisor would have eaten a cluster reserved for Koratty Muthy, ill and recovered after a donation of land to the sanctuary. The story explains a living vautive custom and the popular name of the advocation; there is no canonical process that declares that episode a miracle. It is therefore presented as a devotional tradition and not as a proven medical or ecclesial fact.
