Ntra. Ms. de la Asunción de Secunderabad (Hyderabad)
Conocida popularmente como St. Mary’s, es la iglesia católica más antigua de Secunderabad, iniciada en 1840 por el misionero irlandés Daniel Murphy y consagrada en 1850. Benedicto XVI la elevó a basílica menor en 2008.
🌹 Wonders and anecdotes
- It was started in 1840 by Father Daniel Murphy, arrived to serve the Irish Catholics of the British army, and consecrated in 1850; it was then the largest Christian temple in the territory of the nizam.
- Gothic style, with arches pointed and counterstrong, houses four large bells brought from Italy in 1901.
- He was a cathedral of the diocese until 1886, when the headquarters moved to Hyderabad; next to the temple, the religious of Santa Ana de Turin opened an still active school in 1871.
- Benedict XVI gave him the title of a minor basilica on 7 November 2008; faithful of all religions visit him every 15 August.
