The Geghard Monastery
The Geghard Monastery is one of the holiest sites in Armenia. Founded in the 4th century, the monastery is partially carved into the living rock of the Gegham Mountains. The name "Geghard" means "spear" in Armenian, referring to the spear that pierced Christ's side.
The Virgin of the Rock
The Virgin of the Rock is a 12th-century stone carving depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. The image is hewn from the bedrock of the monastery and has been venerated for centuries by Armenian worshippers.
