The Catholic parish of Sheki is one of the most important faith communities in Azerbaijan. Founded in the 19th century, the parish has served the Catholics of the region for generations.
The Virgin of Silk
The image of Our Lady of Silk is a wooden carving depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, surrounded by silk threads and looms. Tradition says that the Virgin appeared to a weaver from Sheki during a terrible drought that threatened to destroy the silkworms.
