The fortress of Tighina
The Tighina Fortress, also known as Bender Fortress, is one of Moldova's most important fortifications. Built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, the fortress has been the site of numerous battles and sieges throughout history.
The Chapel of the Virgin
Within the fortress is a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, where soldiers would go to ask for protection before battle. The image of the Virgin venerated in this chapel dates from the 17th century and has been restored several times.
