Church of Santa María de Aalborg (Sankt Mariæ Kirke)
The Sankt Mariæ Kirke, Catholic Church of Santa Maria, serves the Catholics of Aalborg, in northern Denmark, within the diocese of Copenhagen, the only Catholic diocese of the country. It was founded by the Order of the Camilos in 1898 and is still operational in Kastetvej 1.
🌹 Wonders and anecdotes
- It was founded in 1898 by the Order of the Camils, the religious of San Camilo de Lelis dedicated to the care of the sick, and more than a century later it remains the home of the Catholic community of Aalborg.
- It belongs to the Diocese of Copenhagen, which covers all of Denmark: a small Catholic flock who keeps the faith alive on land of ancient Nordic Christianity.
- He was appointed the Jubilee Church of the Holy Year 2025, a place of grace and indulgence for the pilgrims of northern Jutland.
- Aalborg keeps ancient Marian memory: in the city there existed before the Reformation the abbey of Our Lady (Vor Frue), testimony that devotion to St. Mary accompanied this land from the Middle Ages.
