In Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the center of the Catholic faith. The Lazarist missionaries established devotion in the 19th century.

Faith on the Red Island

Madagascar es conocida como la «isla roja» por el color de su tierra. Los católicos son una minoría significativa, alrededor del 25% de la población. La Virgen María es la madre que los protege en la isla.

Tradition tells that the Virgin protects Malagasy Catholics from the cyclones that hit the island. The faithful pray the Rosary before the storms, asking for the protection of the Virgin.
