At the summit of the Puig de Sant Salvador, over Felanitx, a great sanctuary born as a vote against the black plague guards the Mare de Déu de Sant Salvador, crowned in 1934 and surrounded by centuries of exvotes.

Origin and history

The origins of the sanctuary are located in 1348, when King Pere III the Cerimoniós granted Felanitx the privilege of building a chapel in the Puig de Sant Salvador to implore protection from the black plague. The original church was raised around 1349, it was rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century and extended to 1715; the present one is basically the 18th century. The group had a school of grammar, atalaya against the pirates and, until 1992, was the residence of the hermitages of San Pablo and San Antonio.

The headline is the Mare de Déu de Sant Salvador, a venerated stone sculpture of the 15th century; next to the temple, a room of devotees testifies centuries of promises and devotion. It was crowned with papal coronation in 1934. It is a great mountain sanctuary and community pilgrimage center, with annual pilgrimage from Felanitx in early September and Pancaritat on the first Sunday after Easter.
