Marian devotion
Mare de Déu de Valldeflors
Patrona de Tremp (Lleida)
In the basilica that Tremp, capital of the Pallars Jussà, venerates the Mare de Déu de Valldeflors - "valley of flowers" -, the patron of the city, whose name evokes the legend of a rose blossomed in the middle of winter.
Origin and history
The church of Santa Maria de Valldeflors, of Romanesque origin, is the center of the liturgical life of Tremp and received the title of minor basilica in 1923. Since ancient times, the Marian devotion of the city is linked to this temple, today the main parish.
The legend collected by the villa tells that, in time of looting, Christians hid the image; years later, in the middle of winter, a rosewood rose mysteriously next to the altar and, in investigating, they found under the flowers the image of the Virgin - hence the name "Valldefells," a valley of flowers. His goigs call it "the consolation of sinners." She is a patron of Tremp, with a party on the last Monday of May.
