In 1584 the hermit Sebastià found the image in the concavity of the altar of an ancient hermitage of Sant Antoni Abat i Sant Pau; on 25 October 1585 the owner Vicent Cerdà donated the hermitage and the mountain to the municipality. The hermitage, of Renaissance architecture and baroque interior, was built between 1585 and 1622 on a hill 2.5 km from the village.
