Marian devotion
Guadalupe and the truckers of Mexico
Mexico City
Truck drivers carry Guadalupe as their protector on the roads.
Place: Mexico City
Type: Advocation / Apparition
In Mexico, it's common to see an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe affixed to the cab of cargo trucks. The drivers pray to her before each trip.
Tradition holds that the Virgin of Guadalupe protects truck drivers from accidents and robberies. Truck drivers say they sometimes see a light on the road when the fog is thick.
Every December 12th, truckers organize a procession with their trucks along the highways of Mexico.
Guadalupe illuminates the truckers' roads.
