Marian devotion
Guadeloupe and the miners of Zacatecas
Zacatecas, Mexico
The miners of Zacatecas venerate Guadalupe as a protector of the mines.
Place: Zacatecas, Mexico
Type: Apparition / Advocation
In the Zacatecas mines, the miners carry an image of Guadalupe in their barriers. Before you go down to the minion, they pray to protect you.
La tradición cuenta que la Virgen de Guadalupe protege a los mineros de los derrumbes y de los gases tóxicos. Los mineros le dicen: «Madre, cuídanos en la oscuridad.»
Every December 12, the miners organize an underground procession, with candles and songs.
Guadalupe protects those who work in the darkness of the mine.
