The roses of Castile in the Tepeyac
Mexico City
In the middle of Mexican winter, Spanish roses sprout on an arid hill.
On December 12, 1531, Juan Diego went up to the hill of Tepeyac looking for the sign the bishop had asked for. It was winter, the hill was dry and without flowers.
But when he reached the top, he saw a garden of roses from Castile, a species that did not grow in Mexico. He cut them and put them in his tylma.
When he arrived at the bishop's palace, he opened the tima and the roses fell to the ground. But what they all saw was the image of the Virgin who had been stamped on the fabric.
