Marian devotion
Our Lady of St. John of the Lakes
San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco
Mexico's second largest pilgrimage. A dead girl resurrected before the image.
In 1623, a family of barristers was travelling to Guadalajara. The girl acting in the trapeze fell and died instantly. The parents were destroyed.
Ana Lucía, an indigenous woman who was looking after the chapel, took a small image of the Virgin and put it on her breast. Suddenly, the girl opened her eyes and started breathing. He had risen.
The image, only 33 cm and made of corn cane paste, has attracted millions of pilgrims for almost 400 years. It is the second largest pilgrimage in Mexico.
