The fabric is 495 years old and has not deteriorated. Science can't explain it.
The tylma of Juan Diego is of ixtle, a vegetable fiber that lasts up to 30 years. But the image is almost 500 years old and perfect.
Scientists have studied the image with infrared cameras, microscopes and scanners. No artificial pigments, no brushes, no restorations. The image seems to have come out of nowhere.
In the eyes of the Virgin, the researchers have found reflected images of 13 people, as if the Virgin were looking at a crowd.
