Devotion to Fatima spread rapidly throughout Mexico after the Cristero War.
After the Cristero War (1926-1929), when Mexican Catholics fought for their faith, devotion to Our Lady of Fatima spread throughout the country. The Cristeros prayed the Rosary before the image of Our Lady of Fatima.
Tradition holds that Our Lady of Fatima protected the Cristeros during the war. Many soldiers wore a Fatima medal and said that the Virgin saved them from bullets.
Today, there are Fatima chapels in almost every city in Mexico.
