Marian devotion
Our Lady of Talpa
Talpa de Allende, Jalisco
The Virgin of Talpa is the patron of the peasants of Jalisco.
In 1930, a peasant from Talpa found an image of the Virgin in a cave. He took her to the church, but the image always returned to the cave.
The faithful understood that the Virgin wanted to stay there. They built a hermitage and today it is one of the most important shrines in Mexico.
Every August 15, thousands of peasants walk to Talpa to venerate the Virgin.
