Our Lady of Talpa
Talpa de Allende, Jalisco
The Virgin of Talpa was found by a fisherman in the river.
A fisherman from Talpa found an image of the Virgin in the river. He took her home, but the image always returned to the river. The faithful understood that the Virgin wanted to stay there.
They built a hermitage in the place and today is one of the most important shrines in Mexico. Every August 15, thousands of peasants walk to Talpa.
Tradition tells that the Virgin of Talpa protects the fishermen of the river and the peasants of the saw.
