The apparition of the Virgin of Coromoto

The Virgin Mary appeared to an indigenous cacique.
According to tradition, in 1652, the indigenous cacique Coromoto and his wife took refuge in a cave during a flood. There the Virgin Mary appeared to them with the child Jesus.
The Apparition
The Virgin asked Coromoto to be baptized. Coromoto initially refused. Days later, the Virgin appeared to him again. Coromoto was baptized and converted to Catholicism.
The Patron of Venezuela
In 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the Virgin of Coromoto patron of Venezuela. The Shrine of Coromoto receives millions of pilgrims each year.
