The Virgin Mary appeared to the persecuted Vietnamese Catholics.
In 1798, during the persecution of Catholics in Vietnam, many faithful took refuge in the La Vang forest. Tradition tells that the Virgin Mary appeared to them several times.

Según la tradición, la Virgen se apareció vestida con un ao dai (traje tradicional vietnamita) a los católicos perseguidos. Les dijo: «No temáis. Yo estoy con vosotros.» Les enseñó a usar hojas de un árbol para curar sus enfermedades.
The shrine of La Vang
In 1961, Pope John XXIII raised the shrine of La Vang to the lower basilica. The Virgin of La Vang is the patron of Vietnamese Catholics. Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit the sanctuary.
