The image of the Virgin Mary remains incorrupted after almost 500 years.
In December 1531, when San Juan Diego showed his tylma to the bishop, the image of the Virgin Mary appeared miraculously printed on the fabric. The tylma has remained incorrupted for almost 500 years.
Scientific analysis
Scientists have analyzed the tylma and found no pigments or brushes. The image seems to float on the fabric. The colors have not faded after centuries.
In 1936, a scientist examined the tylma with a microscope and found that there were no traces of paint. In 1979, another study found that the eyes of the Virgin contain tiny images that resemble the people present when the photo was taken.
