In Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is the center of the Catholic faith. The Portuguese missionaries established devotion in the 16th century.
Faith after the civil war
Mozambique suffered a devastating civil war (1977- 1992). The Catholics were persecuted and their churches destroyed. The Virgin Mary was the mother who comforted them in suffering.
After the war, Catholics rebuilt their churches. The Virgin of Maputo is the mother who guides you in the recovered peace.
