In the remote Naga Hills in northern Myanmar, the Naga tribes venerate the Virgin Mary. The Baptist and Catholic missionaries converted many tribes in the 20th century.
The conversion of the Naga
The Naga were cannibal warriors who lived in the mountains. The missionaries came with the Bible and the image of the Virgin Mary. The Naga, impressed by the beauty of the Virgin, became a mass.
Today, the Naga are devoted Christians. Every Christmas, they celebrate with traditional songs and dances. The Virgin Mary is the mother who transformed the warriors into men of peace.
