Nepal is a Himalayan country between India and China, with some 30 million inhabitants. Christianity is a growing minority in a predominantly Hindu country. Marian devotion is very strong among Nepalese Catholics, especially the Assumption and Our Lady of Lourdes. Jesuit missionaries have been fundamental in the expansion of faith.

Context: The Church in Nepal
Nepal is a Himalayan country between India and China, with some 30 million inhabitants. Although Hinduism is a majority, the Christianism already represents approximately the 1,4% of the population, about 400,000 faithful, of whom close to 200,000 are Catholic. The Catholic Church grows rapidly despite being a traditionally Hinduist country.
El Apostolic Vicariate of Nepal was created in 2007 (formerly Mission since 1983). It has 29 parishes. Most Catholics are ethnic converts like the correct, newar, magar y chepang. Religious freedom improved significantly after the abolition of the monarchy in 2008.
Marian devotion is very strong among the Nepali faithful, especially the Assumption y Our Lady of Lourdes. Los misionera isuitis have been fundamental in the expansion of faith in the country.

- Los primera missionera jesuitas (1951) - After centuries of isolation, the first Jesuits arrived in Nepal in 1951 invited by the king to take care of education. They could not preach openly, but they founded prestigious schools. The Virgin Mary was discreetly introduced through education and the example of life, sowing seeds that would bear fruit decades later.
- Our Lady of Kathmandu's Assumption - The Cathedral of the Assumption in Kathmandu is the main church of the vicariate, built in the 1990s. It is a meeting point for communities of different ethnic groups. Every August 15, thousands of faithful fill the cathedral and its surroundings to celebrate the Virgin.
- Conversions and the Rosary - Many Nepali become Catholicism after dreaming of "a woman dressed in white" who then identify as Mary. The rosary is the most effective means of evangelization in Nepal. There are Marian prayer groups in almost every Catholic village in the country.
- The silent persecution Although religious freedom exists in theory, converts to Christianity are often discriminated against or expelled from their communities and families. Nepali Catholics pray the rosary by asking for the unity of their families, often divided by conversion.
- The 2015 earthquake and the Virgin - After the devastating earthquake of 2015, many churches were damaged, but the faithful took the images of the Virgin and continued to pray the rosary among the rubble. The Virgin of Lourdes is especially venerated as comfort in suffering.

Our Lady of the Assumption (Kathmandu)
It is the main vocation of the country. The Cathedral of the Assumption of Kathmandu (also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria) is the seat of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nepal and the center of national Catholic life. Every 15 August, the feast of the Assumption brings together thousands of faithful of all ethnic groups in the country.

Our Lady of Lourdes
The Virgin of Lourdes is especially venerated in Nepal as a comfort in suffering. After the 2015 earthquake, his devotion intensified among the faithful seeking comfort in the midst of destruction. There is a Marian pilgrimage center where the faithful come to pray for the sick.

Our Lady of the Rosary
The rosary is the most effective means of evangelization in Nepal. There are Marian prayer groups in almost all Catholic villages. Many converts report having dreamed of "a woman dressed in white" before knowing Christianity, and then identify her with the Virgin Mary when learning the rosary.
