The Virgin of Cuapa is the refuge of priests suffering persecution.
Since 2018, the government of Daniel Ortega has pursued the Catholic Church. Priests have been imprisoned, exiled or killed. But the Virgin of Cuapa remains her refuge.
Los sacerdotes perseguidos rezan ante la imagen de la Virgen de Cuapa y encuentran la fuerza para seguir adelante. La Virgen les recuerda: «No pidan la paz, construyan la paz.»
Many exiled priests carry a small image of the Virgin of Cuapa to their new countries. It is his memory of Nicaragua and his hope of coming back.
