The most important sanctuary in Nicaragua, built in the place of apparitions.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cuapa was built in 1983 in the place where the Virgin appeared to Bernardo Martínez. It is a modern temple that receives thousands of pilgrims every year.
El 8 de diciembre de 1996, el Papa San Juan Pablo II visitó Cuapa y elevó el santuario a basílica menor. Dijo: «Nicaragua es la tierra de la Virgen de Cuapa.»
The pilgrims go up the hill where the cave of apparitions is found and pray before the image of the Virgin. Many say they have felt their presence.
