The Virgin protected Granada from the devastating earthquakes.
Grenada has suffered several earthquakes throughout its history. In 1972, an earthquake devastated Managua and caused damage in Granada. The Granadines prayed to the Virgin of the Assumption and the city was preserved.
In 2004, another earthquake shook the region. The Granadines again prayed to the Virgin and the city suffered less damage than the neighbouring areas.
The faithful say that the Virgin of the Assumption extends her mantle over Granada when the earth trembles.
