Nicaraguan firefighters venerate the Virgin of Carmen as a protector.
At the Central Fire Station in Managua, there is an image of the Virgin of Carmen that the firefighters venerate. Before every emergency, they pray for protection.
Tradition tells that the Virgin of Carmen has protected firefighters from deaths in service. Firemen say they sometimes see a light when they're inside the burning buildings, and that light guides them out.
At the feast of the Virgin of Carmen, the firemen organize a procession with their fire trucks.
