On the banks of the Lake of Nicaragua, the largest in Central America, fishermen venerate the Virgin of Carmen. They carry a small image on their ships and pray before they sail.
La tradición cuenta que la Virgen del Carmen apareció sobre las aguas del lago para guiar a unos pescadores que se habían perdido en una tormenta. Los pescadores la llamaron «La Estrella del Lago.»
Every year, at the feast of the Virgin of Carmen, fishermen organize a floating procession through the lake.
