Our Lady of the Angels

Our Lady of the Angels is the patron saint of Costa Rica. An image of her has been found twice.
In 1635, a young woman found an image of the Virgin Mary in a forest. She took it to the priest, but the next day the image had disappeared. It was found again in the same spot in the forest.
This happened three times. The faithful interpreted this as the Virgin's wish to remain in that place. There they built the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels.
Every August 2nd, millions of Costa Ricans walk to Cartago to venerate the Virgin.
