During the civil war, thousands of Nicaraguans had to leave their homes. In the camps for the displaced, the Virgin of Peace was the mother who comforted them.
The displaced people prayed to an image of the Virgin who had saved from their destroyed houses. The Virgin gave them hope to come home.
Today, in the neighborhoods of Managua, those who were displaced raise altars to the Virgin of Peace, thanking them for having survived.
The Virgin of Peace accompanies those who have lost everything.
