Mudejar Church of Tobed · World Heritage (Zaragoza)
In Tobed, the church of Santa Maria de Aguilar is one of the jewels of the Aragonese Mudejar, declared World Heritage; a tempero-fortress that keeps a venerated Marian advocation.
Origin and history
The church of Santa María de Aguilar de Tobed, built in the 14th century, is one of the great examples of the Aragonese Mudejar, with its slender tower and its brick and ceramic decoration; it is part of the "Aragon Mudejar Architecture" set, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a tempero-strength that preserves the advocation of Our Lady of Aguilar.
Marian devotion is articulated around this temple, artistic jewel and center of the religious life of Tobed. The accessible sources do not accurately detail the feast or a canonical coronation.
Date of the feast and canonical coronation: they are not safely recorded in the sources.
