Origin and history

The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Alarcos rises at the end of the Alarcos hill, within the current archaeological park, next to the Guadiana River; the place was Iberian oppidum and medieval city, scene of the battle of Alarcos of 1195. The hermitage, Gothic, was built between the 13th and 14th centuries, in continuity with the post-battle Christian population, and has been a Good of Cultural Interest since 1980.

The most vivid devotional feature is the Pentecost Romry (Sunday and Monday), of a regional character, which maintains the link between Real City and its surroundings with the sanctuary of the historic Alarcos hill. The sources do not collect a precise foundational account of the image.

"Our Lady of Alarms, pray for us."

Formal patronage and canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
