Our Lady of Altagracia
Patrona de Garrovillas de Alconétar (Cáceres)
In the area of Villaluengo, on the outskirts of Garrovillas of Alconétar, a medieval hermitage guards the Virgin of Altagracia, patron of the village, honored with ninth and Romeria around September 8.
Origin and history
The hermitage is of medieval origin, dating back to the 15th century, although there could be an earlier building. The diocese of Coria- Cáceres links its feast to the Nativity of the Virgin, on September 8, with the ninth previous since August 30. Tradition tells that a pastoralist found the image, which miraculously returned to the place of finding when they took it to the people; a account of popular piety.
She is a patron of Garrovillas of Alconétar, and her cult is articulated around the Romeria and the 9th, with a regular visit of the image to the people according to the diocesan tradition.
Canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
