Marian devotion
Our Lady of Tables
"Lady of Sierra Magina" · Bedmar (Jaén)
In a lush area of Sierra Mágina, next to a torreon and a medieval mill, the shrine of Cuadros guards the patron of Bedmar, to which they also go up in Romeria from neighbouring Jódar.
Origin and history
The Relations of Philip II (1575) already mention the great devotion to the Virgin of Cuadros in the region, which indicates a consolidated cult at least since the 16th century. The present sanctuary is erected in 1615 in the area of Cuadros, forming together with a turret and a medieval mill; its polygonal shrimp was built in the early 18th century. Devotion is part of the popular, prostidinous religiosity promoted by the Bishop of Jaén Sobrino Dávila.
She is a patron of Bedmar and known as "Lady of Sierra Magina." The devotion has a double projection: in the neighbouring Jódar, documented from a will of 1551, they have also assumed it as a patron at the popular level, with annual Romeria to the area of Cuadros that lasts until today. The enclave, by the river and the saw, strengthens a piety very linked to the rural and agricultural environment.
The exact date of the roasting and canonical coronation: they are not safely recorded in the sources.
