Marian devotion
Our Lady of Darbo
Santuario de Cangas do Morrazo (Pontevedra)
In Cangas do Morrazo, the Baroque shrine of Santa Maria de Darbo guards the Virgin of Darbo, honored every 8 September with a rosemary in which the ancient "Dance of Darbo" is executed.
Origin and history
The church - the sanctuary of Santa Maria de Darbo is a baroque temple of the 17th and 18th centuries, in granite, with a certain colonial influence, integrated in the so-called "monumental set of Darbo" - sanctuary, cruises and fountain dedicated to the Virgin - which shows a stable Marian cult at least since the Baroque era.
The most characteristic devotional feature is the Traditional Romeria of Nosa Señora de Darbo, on 8 September, in which the "famous Danza de Darbo" is executed, ancestral dance before the Virgin; with procession, cruising and fountain, it is a focus of popular religiosity very rooted in the region of Cangas.
Formal patronage and canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
