The Catholic parish of Kulyab is one of the most important faith communities in Tajikistan. Founded in the 19th century, the parish has served the Catholics of the region for generations.
The Virgin of the Poets
The image of Our Lady of the Poets is a wooden carving depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, surrounded by books and quills. Tradition says that the Virgin appeared to a poet from Kulyab while he was writing a love poem.

Literary tradition
The poets of Kulyab recount that before writing, they would go to the parish church to pray the Rosary before the image of Our Lady of the Poets. Tradition says that poets who prayed the Rosary always found the right words.
