Our Lady of the Ancient
Patrona de Fuentesauco (Zamora)
The patron of Fuentesauco, Our Lady of the Old is a gothic size in stone that, by its great weight, processes in carroza; its ninth culminates on the Monday of Pentecost.
Origin and history
The image of Our Lady of the Old is a late Gothic size in polychrome stone, complete, on a peana carved by the Salmantino sculptor Diego García de Salcedo in 1654. It is sold in a hermitage on the outskirts of the village - the ancient church of San Pedro ad Vincula, rebuilt in 1874 - while the main parish is the church of Santa Maria del Castillo.
She is a patron of the village of Fuentesauco. Its main party is held on Pentecost Monday: the image is moved on Ascension Sunday to the parish, where a noviary is held, with two outings (green for the transfer and blue for the party). Because of its great weight, it comes out in procession on a carriage with wheels.
Canonical coronation: not found in the sources.
